How to Safely Replace Your Lenovo ThinkPad Battery
If the battery of your Lenovo ThinkPad laptop is not holding a charge like it used to, it might be time for a replacement. This guide will walk you through safely replacing the battery in your ThinkPad using the L18M3P73 battery, compatible with T14 Gen 1 and Gen 2, P14s Gen 1 and Gen 2, T490, T495, and P43s models.
Step 1: Prepare for Safety
Before starting, disable the built-in battery via the BIOS Utility Settings to prevent electrical damage. Access the BIOS, navigate to Config, select Power, and hit Disable Built-in Battery. This step ensures the system is powered down safely.
Step 2: Access the Battery
Using an appropriate screwdriver, remove the laptop's back cover by unscrewing it to expose the internal components. Locate the battery secured by four screws and connected to the systemboard via a cable.
Step 3: Replace the Battery
Unscrew the four screws holding the old battery in place and disconnect the cable linking it to the motherboard. Replace it with the new L18M3P73 battery, reconnect the cable, and secure it using the screws.
Step 4: Reassemble the Laptop
Carefully place the back cover back on the laptop and screw it in place. Ensure all screws are tightened securely to avoid loose parts.
By following these steps, you can safely and efficiently replace the battery in your ThinkPad, extending its lifespan and ensuring continued performance.
