Lenovo ThinkPad T480s Laptop Disassembly and Speakers Repair Guide

In this guide, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of disassembling the Lenovo ThinkPad T480s to replace the speakers. These steps can also be applied to similar models in the T series, such as the T460s, T470s, T480, and T490s. Whether you're repairing faulty speakers or performing other maintenance, this tutorial will help ensure a smooth and safe repair.

Step 1: Disable the Built-in Battery

Before you begin, disable the built-in battery from the BIOS to avoid electrical damage during the disassembly. Power off the laptop, restart it into the BIOS, and locate the battery disable option under the power settings.

Step 2: Remove the Bottom Cover

Loosen the six captive screws on the back cover using a screwdriver. These screws are attached to the cover, so they will not fall out. After loosening the screws, use an opening tool to carefully remove the bottom cover and set it aside.

Step 3: Remove the Battery

Once the bottom cover is off, you will see the battery. Remove the screws securing the battery to the laptop frame and gently disconnect the battery from the motherboard. Lift the battery out and set it aside.

Step 4: Remove the Faulty Speakers

Next, locate the faulty speakers. Start by disconnecting the speaker wires from the motherboard. Unscrew the right speaker, carefully remove its cables from the frame, and then remove the left speaker.

Step 5: Install the New Speakers

Place the new speakers into the appropriate slots, ensuring they fit properly. Reattach the connector to the motherboard and make sure the wiring is securely in place.

Step 6: Reassemble the Laptop

Once the new speakers are installed, carefully reassemble the laptop. Replace the battery and secure it with screws. Attach the bottom cover, tighten the screws, and ensure all components are properly aligned.

Step 7: Test the Speakers

After reassembly, power on the laptop and test the new speakers. Play audio to confirm that both the left and right speakers are functioning properly.

This guide provides a straightforward method for replacing the speakers in the Lenovo ThinkPad T480s, and it is applicable to many other T-series models. Whether you are fixing sound issues or performing other repairs, following these steps will help you get the job done efficiently.
